There's a lot more to Jon McDonald than meets the eye. For the past 20 years, Jon has been an active member of the Lancaster Sertoma Club, helping in community fundraising events that help make a difference in Lancaster. The Lancaster Sertoma Club, raises over $160,000 every year to help in the beautification and upkeep of Longs Park, support of programs helping kids at risk, and contributions to organizations helping with the speech and hearing impaired of Lancaster County.
Jon has held offices of Director and Sergeant at Arms, and in 1999, chaired the club's annual Sertoma's World's Largest Chicken BBQ raising over $120,000 in a single day fundraising event, cooking over 32,000 chicken dinners. The BBQ stands in the Guiness Book of World Records. In 2003, Jon chaired the club's fundraising efforts at the annual WIOV Country Music Fest, raising a record $21,000 from food concessions.
In 2009, Jon took his passion for antique cars and helped create a new fundraiser for the Sertoma Club... The Midsummer Night's Dream Car and Motorcycle Show. Chairing it in its first year, the event brought to Longs Park over 670 classic and antique cars and raised over $16,000. Owner of 5 classic/antique cars himself, his favorite is a pink and gray 1956 Desoto Sportsman Fireflight that his grandfather gave his grandmother on Valentine's Day in 1956. Its restored to showroom condition.
In 2009, The Sertoma Club recognized Jon's contributions and bestowed upon him its Sertoman of the Year award, acknowledging 20 years of passionate involvement in the club. He was also recognized as the Susquehanna Valley's Regional Sertoman of the Year.
